PALEČEK, F., ROCHOVÁ-MIKULÁŠKOVÁ, J. (Res. Inst. Pharm. Bioch., Prague). Experimental emphysema in Rats; an Attempt to Influence its Production by Gestagen Administration. Physiol. bohemoslov. 17 (5): 445-454, 1968.
In immature rats the lung emphysema was produced by surgical tracheoconstriction and intratracheal injections of papain. The increase of the functional residual lung capacity and a quantitative morphological examination of the lungs served as measures of pulmonary lesions. Lung emphysema was produced in 100 % of the experimental animals. The values of lung ventilation, the response to 100 % oxygen and 5 % carbon dioxide in oxygen inhalations, the heart rate, the body weight of surviving rats, the weight of heart and liver, the values of haemoglobin, haematocrít and blood volume in rats with lung emphysema were, on the average, not significantly different from the controls. Occasionally a developing cor pulmonale was observed. Gestagen administration to a part of the experimental group of rats did not influence the production of lung emphysema.
